One-Mile Race Planned for May 30 in Downtown St. Charles
The Foot Mechanics Memorial Day Main Street Mile features categories to accommodate all types of runners.
The Foot Mechanics Memorial Day Main Street Mile, a one-mile race featuring several entry categories for runners, is planned for 7:30 a.m. May 30 in downtown St. Charles.
The all-downhill race, a fundraiser for Salute, Inc., which supports military service members and their families and Save-A-Vet.org, which rescues military service dogs, is being presented by Dick Pond Athletics and New Balance.
Seven waves of runners are expected to take about 90 minutes to complete the course, which will be along Main Street from 14th Street to Riverside Avenue. The St. Charles Memorial Day Parade will start once all racers have cross the finish line at about 10 a.m.
Race categories include elite, masters, military veterans, families, dogs and their owners and students, among others. The official spokesperson of the race is Tera Moody, a St. Charles native who was a member of the U.S. marathon team during the 2009 World Championships.
Time-qualified elite runners will compete for a cash awards for those coming in first through fifth place.
