Census Finds Population of St. Charles Grew by 18 Percent in Past Decade—In 2000, the city’s population was 27,896 and it rose to 32,600 last year, according to census figures. St. Charles gained more new residents than both Geneva and Batavia.

St. Charles Borders Store Among Those to Close as Part of Bankruptcy Plan—While St. Charles city officials were aware of pending bankruptcy proceedings for bookstore giant Borders, some were told as recently as last week that there was no indication of the possible closing of the West Main Street location.
