Motorists can expect delays on Route 31 as the Illinois Department of Transportation began road resurfacing this week.
About two miles of road will have the asphalt milled down and resurfaced, according to officials. The road won't be closed but flaggers will be directing traffic and it will narrow to one lane in various locations. Work is expected to be finished on all of Route 31 in October.
Officials are asking drivers to consider alternate routes. A second round of road construction, this time on Route 25, won't begin until October. Road closures are expected on the route during that time.
