  • Editor's Note: Information provided by the St. Charles Emergency Management Agency

The City of St. Charles is planning to participate in one of the largest earthquake preparedness events ever scheduled in the central United States.

At 10:15 a.m. April 28, the St. Charles Emergency Management Agency will deliver a special test announcement via the many tone alert receivers located in businesses, schools and government offices throughout the city.

Following is the text of the announcement:
“This is the Great Central U.S. Shakeout. You are joining the largest earthquake drill in this region’s history. We are participating now so we’ll know how to protect ourselves during a real earthquake. This is an earthquake drill; right now, drop, cover, and hold on.”

Those without access to the broadcast can visit www.shakeout.org/centralus/
