St. Patrick Catholic Church of St. Charles Offering Before- and After-School and Preschool Programs

The before- and after-school care began Aug. 31 and the preschool opens Sept. 12. Both programs will be offered at the church's downtown location.

St. Patrick Catholic Church is starting a preschool and a before- and after-school care programs this fall.

The before- and after-school care began Aug. 31 and the preschool opens Sept. 12. Both programs will be housed at the St. Patrick downtown St. Charles location at 118 N. 5th St., which is the previous elementary school site.

An open house for the preschool is planned 8:30 a.m. to noon Sept. 11. The goal of the new preschool program is to provide a nurturing environment that promotes the spiritual, cognitive, social, physical and musical development of young children. Those who attend the preschool will receive a balance of structured learning and free play and will be introduced to faith values and Catholic observances.

Children as young as 2 years old can attend classes with their parents and 3- and 4-year-olds can independently attend classes several days each week. Openings are available for 2- and 3-year-olds.

Sr. Isabel Garza has been named Preschool Director. She is from the Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco and has earned master’s degrees in both Administration and Early Childhood Education from William Paterson University.

Besides learning core subjects including math and science, students will also learn Spanish language and gospel stories.

All preschool students and their siblings will automatically be eligible to attend St. Patrick Catholic Elementary School as they move to kindergarten.

Students currently enrolled at St. Patrick Catholic School can also attend the new before- and after-school care program this fall. During the program, students will do homework, play and participate in arts and crafts activities. Transportation will be provided for program participants to and from the on Crane Road, enabling parents to drop off and pick up children at the downtown location.
