Water-Quality Report Released and More: 5 Things You Should Know for Wednesday, July 6

View the city's 2011 water report, meet the registration deadline for a PS3 tournament and attend a festival in nearby Barrington. Here are today's top items to keep you in-the-know.

If you're like most residents, water quality is a key element to keeping our families healthy and free from harmful contaminants. The City of St. Charles wants to keep its residents up to speed and you can find out how to access the city's 2011 Water Report below.  

Here are our top five important things to know today:

1. Today is the registration deadline for teens interested in participating in the PlayStation 3 tournament at the on July 7. During the competition, youths ages 11 to 19 will compete in various rounds with the top three players winning a prize.

The grand prize will be a free extra large pizza, provided by  of St. Charles.

2. Each year, the City of St. Charles Water Division produces a Water Report. The report summarizes water sources, quality, and minerals and contaminants in the city's water supply.

The 2011 report also outlines the Radium Removal Treatment Plant, now being constructed on North Riverside Avenue in the downtown area. The purpose of this facility is to reduce the amount of radium that has been found in two St. Charles water wells.

3. College-bound juniors attending can now register for the ACT exam. The fee is $33. The district has requested that students register early to get their first choice of testing locations. Tests will be conducted throughout the 2011-12 school year.

4. Raging Waves Water Park in Yorkville will host an exotic animal event, presented by "A Zoo to You" with three show times: 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Kids will love learning about animals during this exotic animal encounter which features up to 20 types of reptiles and mammals.

5. Attend in Barrington's downtown Metra Station parking lot from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. to experience international food, culture and dancing from vendors and performers throughout the world. There will be activities for teens and adults, and music for all ages. 

This event is sponsored by the Barrington Breakfast Rotary Club. Admission is free from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. After 5 p.m., the cost will be $2 per adult or $5 per family. For more information, click .
