UPDATE: Overnight Snow Covers the Tri-Cities

The National Weather Services is predicting 2 to 4 inches.

Update, 12:50 a.m. The weather service said Thursday that 2 to 4 inches of overnight snow was predicted for the area. The bulk of it was expected to fall overnight.

Original story The National Weather Service is saying 4 to 8 inches of new snowfall is possible tonight.

The weather service warns there is a 100 percent chance of precipitation for Kane County and northeast Illinois. Today's rain is predicted to turn to snow during the evening hours.

A winter weather advisory is in effect through 6 a.m. Friday, accoridng the weather service. Look for pockets of heavy snow in the early evening, around 7 p.m.

The heaviest amounts area expected in Kane and southern McHenry Counties, according to the weather advisory. Drivers should prepare for potentially hazarudous road conditions. 

Tonight's low is predicted to be around 28. Winds will be between 15 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
