Predict the Oscars Contest Announces Winner at Cinema 12 Theatre

Speeches were made, “selfies”
taken, pizza shared and the 2014 Oscars ceremony has now come to a close. After
hours of sorting and counting, Classic Cinemas is proud to announce the winners
of the Annual “Predict the Oscars”
contest
. Elgin resident Tom Krejczyk
takes home the prize for the Cinema 12 Theatre, and will receive a yearlong
movie pass for one valid at any Classic Cinemas theatre, and two passes to the
Brookfield Zoo.  Krejczyk submitted his ballot at the Cinema 12 Theatre, located at 100 Besinger Drive in Carpentersville.

“This
year’s group of Oscar winners was a bit ‘more predictable’ than others, which
opened the field for more patrons to receive prizes for their correct
predictions,” explained Classic Cinemas Vice President Chris Johnson. “We were
quite impressed by the number of patrons who participated in our annual Oscar
contest, and are pleased that movies continue to engage, enlighten and
entertain our loyal customers.”

This
year, winners range from 27 to 80 years old, and over 7,608 ballots were cast during
the six-week contest. In order to win, customers needed to predict all seven
categories correctly:  Best Picture, Best
Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting
Actress and Best Animated Film.

Krejczyk, 43, has been
entering the Predict the Oscars contest for about ten years. He wasn’t sure
whether ’12 Years a Slave’ or ‘Gravity’ would win Best Picture, so he hedged
his bets when submitting his ballots.

“I usually enter just one
ballot, but this year I wasn’t sure if ‘Gravity’ was going to win or ’12 Years
a Slave,’ so I entered the same ballot twice but swapped out ‘Gravity’ for ’12
Years a Slave’ when I visited the Elk Grove Theatre.”

After watching the 2014
Oscars ceremony, Krejcyk knew he had guessed the categories correctly at the
Cinema 12, but did not think he would win.

“I was actually surprised
because the last several years I’ve entered the contest and gotten them all
correct, but I’ve never been drawn as a winner,” said Krejczyk.

Classic
Cinemas received 255 correct ballots this year, and each of the 13 theatres
selected one winner from the correct ballots at that location. The remaining
correct ballots entered at the Lindo Theatre will receive a pair of movie
passes to any Classic Cinemas location and a pair of tickets to the Brookfield
Zoo.
