5 Things You Should Know for Tuesday, Feb. 21

Fat Tuesday (and a happy one to you, as well!), a new map of St. Charles and Tango that won't cost you any cash.

What awaits you this (Fat) Tuesday? There's some important City business to discuss tonight. Or you can just skip all that and take a tango lesson.

Here are 5 Things you should know for today:

1. The City of St. Charles regular City Council meeting will be tonight. Monday was Presidents Day so the Council and several other meetings were pushed back a day.

On the City Council agenda, you’ll see a motion to approve an alternative ward map called “Harvest Hills.” City Administrator Brian Townsend, who also is a blogger on St. Charles Patch, has explained the process the Redistricting Task Force has gone through in adjusting the city ward boundaries in light of population changes reflected in the 2010 census results.

TribLocal has reported that the proposed map has come up against some Council concerns.

2. Today is Mardi Gras, otherwise known as Fat Tuesday. Mardi Gras celebrations take place all across the world. One of the more famous ones in the U.S. takes place in New Orleans, Louisiana. What follows is Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent.

3. Tango anyone? The St. Charles Public Library is hosting a free beginner’s Tango Line Dancing lesson at 7 p.m.

Interested would-be dancers will get a taste of milongas, an Argentine Tangos with a lively tempo. Be sure to wear comfortable clothing. No partners are required but you must be 18 years or older.

4. Restaurant Week continues until Thursday in St. Charles. Diners get 25 percent off their check at participating restaurants (certain conditions apply, of course).

Go to the City's website—www.stcharlesil.gov/restaurant-week—to download a copy of the discount card. You might also have received one in the mail.

5. St. Charles Patch’s Places section has what you need to find a good restaurant, a fun little clothing store or a favorite new nightspot. And, you can leave reviews about your favorites.
