Malone Funeral Home


  • Jerry P. Perrone, 88, a longtime and well known proprietor of City Barbershop in Geneva, died Sunday, Jan. 19. Jerry served his country in the U.S. Marines during WW II. Back in Geneva, Jerry joined his father at the City Barber Shop as a co-owner and barber where he was a fixture of the community for more than 75 years. Jerry was active with the auxiliary police, a longtime member of the American Legion in Geneva and always enjoyed participating in their activities. In his free time, Jerry liked to bowl and play poker. A Celebration of Life visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at Malone Funeral Home, 324 East State Street (Route 38), Geneva.

  • Anthony James FelbabVisitation will be held form 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, at Yurs Funeral Home of Geneva. Burial Location: Private
  • Jill Zak, nee Rigg, 46, of Geneva, died Wednesday at her home surrounded by her loving family. Jill attended The University of Illinois, where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority and the gymnastics team. She became a Flight Attendant with American Airlines from 1992 to 2011, was a member of Christ Community Church participating in the Women’s Wednesday morning Bible Study and serving in the Genesis Middle School Program. Jill loved to cook, travel and especially loved her family. She had an infectious laugh as everyone close to her knew.
  • Cynthia L. Beltz, 60, of Palos Hills, peacefully passed away surrounded by her children on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014. Cindy is survived by 2 children; son Greg, and daughter Kimberly (George) Schuth.
  • Wanda G. Smith — Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, at the United Methodist Church of Geneva. Burial Location: Private
  • Mary Szemplinski, 86, worked for the president of Armor Labs & GTE Automatic Electric patent/legal, where she retired. She was a koving wife to Richard and married 61 years, mother to Lyn Sims, Joan Herbert and Gary Herbert, grandmother to Brandon and Michael Herbert.

Moss Funeral Home


  • Kenneth J. Stapleton, 75, of Batavia, is survived by his beloved wife, Karen of Batavia; his two children, Don Stapleton of Batavia and Dave (Margie) Stapleton of Lombard; a grandson, Nathaniel Stapleton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
  • James Carlisle Borman, 71, was a lifelong Batavia resident who had lived on Carlisle road his entire life, where his family’s farm once stood. Jim was an avid outdoorsman with several hobbies and passions. As a career he worked as an RV mechanic. As a younger man he drag raced cars with the NHRA and also raced stockcars and boats. He was involved with a boat building company and jet ski company for a time. He also water skied in the Tommy Bartlett Show at Wisconsin Dells. Jim was a founding member of the Aurora Land Archers and served as chairman for the International Bow Hunting Organization. Jim served in the United States Army from November 1966 until his honorable discharge September 1967.   
  • Cheryl Kay Carlson, 63, of Batavia was a devoted mother and lived each and every day for her children and grandchildren. She gave so much of herself and received no greater joy than simply being with her family. Cheryl defined compassion and forgiveness, she taught by example, and loved unconditionally. She is already missed. Truly a one-of-a-kind “Grandma”, mom, and friend.
  • George Paul Bauman III, 81, of Batavia, proudly served his country in the Korean War from 1951 until 1955 as a machinist’s mate with the United States Navy. He sailed both the Sea of Japan and the South China Sea aboard the USS George Clymer. George was a faithful member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in North Aurora.
