Former Geneva Leader Jack Ryan Dies at Age 78

Visitation is 3 to 8 p.m. today, Monday, Dec. 3, at Malone Funeral Home in Geneva. Prayers will be held at the funeral home at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, proceeding to St. John Neumann Catholic Church for funeral Mass at 10 a.m.

Former Geneva businessman, alderman and Geneva Chamber of Commerce President John A.  “Jack” Ryan has died at the age of 78.

Ryan, of St Charles and formerly of Geneva died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at Delnor Hospital in Geneva surrounded by his family.

Ryan was the owner-operator of Ryan Automotive in Geneva for many years. He was very involved in local organizations and served the community as an alderman, president of Geneva Chamber of Commerce, a member of Delnor Foundation Board and a president of the St Peter School Board. He was also a longtime member of Geneva Lions Club and St. John Neumann Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and Eucharistic minister.

Ryan was an avid runner and golfer, loved hockey and was a strong supporter of Geneva High School sports as a longtime Sports Booster member. 

He was born Oct. 24, 1934, in Pittsburgh, Pa., the son of John F. and Bernice (Halpin) Ryan.

He is survived by his wife, Martha (Mutti) Ryan; sons John of Iowa, Jeff (Cheryl) of Batavia, and Joe (Sue) Ryan of Geneva; daughters Joan (Doug) Froehlich of Iowa and Julie Ryan of Michigan; grandchildren Michael, Nolan, Jessica, and Nichole Ryan and McKayla Froehlich; great grandchildren Brooke and Ashlyn. He is also survived by Martha’s daughter, Elizabeth Keith, and her daughter, Marissa Pulecio.

Ryan was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ann, who died in 1991, his parents, daughter Joanne, sons Jimmy and Jerry, brother Jim Ryan and sister Mary Ellen Chiappetti.

A wake will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, at , Geneva.

Funeral  prayers will held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at Malone Funeral Home, proceeding to St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 2900 E. Main St., St. Charles, for celebration of funeral Mass at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Nicholas Federspiel, celebrant.

Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Geneva.
