7 Adults Sent to Hospital After Kirk-Fabyan Crash Friday Morning

The crash involved two vehicles, and both drivers received citations. Here’s what happened.

Seven adults were treated and transported to two hospitals Friday morning after a crash at Kirk Road and Fabyan Parkway.

The crash involved a full-size pickup truck and a full-size passenger van, both of which had to be towed from the scene. The incident occurred at 5:52 a.m. Friday, according to Geneva police.

The male driver of the truck received a citation for disregarding a traffic signal. The driver of the van received citations for no valid driver’s license and no insurance, said Eric Passarelli, Geneva police commander.

Both drivers and the five passengers had to be taken to either Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva or Provena Mercy Medical Center in Aurora. A total of five ambulances were used, said Randy Banker, battalion chief.

Traffic was blocked or narrowed on Kirk Road and Fabyan Parkway for at least an hour following the crash.

The pickup truck driver was headed eastbound on Fabyan Parkway west of Kirk Road while the passenger van was turning left onto Kirk Road, police said.

The truck driver disregarded the traffic signal and proceeded into the intersection, where he collided with the van.

The and the following fire departments assisted with the crash response:

  • Elburn
  • Geneva
  • North Aurora
  • St. Charles

No other information about the drivers or the passengers was available Friday afternoon.

Another problem at this intersection is the back up of left hand turners onto Fabyan from Kirk. If you are not familiar with this, you will be cruising along at 45 mph in the inside lane and have to brake suddenly. Perhaps IDOT should be evaluating this.

For such a heavily used intersection, there should be dual turn lanes to minimize the back up of traffic. The surrounding vacant properties and easement could accommodate such an improvement.

Absolutely agree. I will write to IDOT.

I totally agree that there should be dual left hand turn lanes at this intersection. It's very scary waiting to turn while part of your car is hanging out on Kirk Rd.!! An accident waiting to happen. This still doesn't fix the drivers going too fast, not paying attention and just being stupid. The driver without the license must not of had the brains to pass the test!

The sooner they put in a left hand turn lane the better off it will be for all drivers who use Kirk Road going North. This is one of the most dangerous intersctions on Kirk Road. Lets not wait until there are fatalities involved. Larry Smith
