72-year-old St. Charles Resident Reports Scam to Police

Here is an item from the city police blotter.

A 72-year-old St. Charles resident reported to police that a man called her claiming she had won a $5 million prize from Walgreens.

The caller had said she would need to open a Money Gram or Western Union account in order to claim the “prize.” The resident then called a Walgreens store to check out the situation and was told that they knew nothing about a contest.

Police had spoken with the residents when a second phone call from the suspicious number was made to the home. An officer answered the phone and identified himself. The caller then reportedly hung up.
