Anonymous Tip Results in Drug Arrest for West Chicago Man

Here is an item from the St. Charles police blotter.

A 19-year-old West Chicago man was arrested for drug possession on April 12 after police received an anonymous complaint of people smoking drugs in a car parked at the Charlestowne Mall.

Brandon Mitchell Betlej, 19, of 199 North Ave., was arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

According to the police report, Betlej and another man were sitting inside a white Nissan Altima when the officer arrived in the parking lot. An odor of cannabis—another name for marijuana—allegedly was coming from the car. The officer conducted field sobriety tests. Two items, a silver “hitter” box and a pipe reportedly fell to the ground after the officer asked Betlej to stand.

When asked by the officer if there was marijuana in the car, Betlej allegedly produced a plastic bag containing a green leafy substance from his pocket. A test conducted later on the substance was positive for marijuana.
