Blotter: DUI Arrest for St. Charles Man After Crashing into Fire Hydrant

The following arrest information was supplied by the St. Charles Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

DUI arrest follows crash

Charles Richard Grzywa, 55, of 303 S. Third St., No. 2, St. Charles, was arrested for drunken driving on March 9, according to a report. Grzywa reportedly struck a fire hydrant while driving a silver Ford Taurus near the intersection of Fourth Street and Prairie Street. Police said they could smell alcohol inside an ambulance where Grzywa was being treated after the crash. He submitted to sobriety tests, after which he was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. During booking, he took a test for his blood-alcohol level and was charged with DUI with a BAL greater than 0.08. Police also issued two traffic citations to Grzywa.

Resisting a police officer

Edward Eugene Brubaker, 50, of 105 N. 15th St. No. A, St. Charles, was arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting a police officer on March 9, according to a police report. Brubaker reportedly was involved in a disturbance. During the arrest, he allegedly ignored instructions from officers and refused to walk out of the room.

That's one way to catch 40 winks

On March 9, a queen-sized mattress was left in the front lawn of a house in the 200 block of Grand Ridge Road. The homeowner said she found the mattress when she returned home and did not know where it came from. She did indicate to police that she would throw the mattress away.

Ryan A. Cross, 32, of 820 Panorama Dr. No. 205, Palatine, was arrested on March 10 for drunken driving, according to police. Police reportedly stopped the vehicle Cross was driving for only having the running lights on while at night. During the stop, Cross allegedly admitted to drinking alcohol. He submitted to sobriety tests and was placed under arrested. Police cited him for driving under the influence of alcohol and several other traffic violations.

Two citations for public drunkenness

Tyler B. Royer, 22, of 1026 Dean St., St. Charles, was cited for public drunkenness on March 10, according to a police report.

Zachary A. Beebe, 27, of 687 High St., Aurora, was cited for public drunkenness on march 10, according to a police report.
