Parent called school district about questionable materials in a locker, school officials said.

St. Charles police called in a bomb squad as a precaution Wednesday afternoon after finding suspicious material in a locker at St. Charles East High School, the Kane County Chronicle reports.

St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 Superintendent Don Schlomann told the Chronicle the bomb squad was called just after 3 p.m., after classes had been dismissed.

After-school activities were canceled briefly but resuming about 3:30 p.m., after the bomb squad determined there was no threat, the Chronicle reports. School officials expect normal operations at the school on Thursday.

Schlomann told the Chronicle that the district was alerted to the material from a parent who called the district about 10 a.m. to express concern that there were materials in a locker that should not be there. Police came St. Charles East to investigate. He told the Chronicle that later in the afternoon, police were uncertain enough about some of the materials to call in the bomb squad.
