Chain-Reaction Crash in St. Charles Closes Route 64 for an Hour

Six people were transported to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, St. Charles police say.

Six people were transported to Delnor Hospital in Geneva on Thursday afternoon after a chain-reaction crash involving three eastbound vehicles on West Main Street/Route 64 at Peck Road, St. Charles police said.

Two of the victims were treated at Delnor and released; four others remained in the hospital as of 4:40 p.m. with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Genevieve Haasis, 19, of the 40W800 block of Bending Lane, Elgin, was cited with failure to reduce speed to avoid and accident, and failure to ensure a passenger was using a seat belt, police said.

Haasis was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt with three passengers about 12:49 p.m. when she rear-ended a 2003 Ford Excursion containing two people that was stopped in traffic. The force of the crash pushed the Ford into a third vehicle,  a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, containing only the driver.

St. Charles police said six of the seven people involved were transported to Delnor.

Police reopened the roadway and cleared the accident scene an hour after the crash.
