D303 Emails Parents: Help Police with Facebook Investigation
The school district also advises parents to monitor their children's activity on social media.
St. Charles School District 303 on Thursday sent an email to all parents advising them that a Naperville man has been accused of posing as a 15-year-old St. Charles East High School student on Facebook to solicit sex from underage girls.
The email, sent Thursday afternoon under the sibject line, “Arrest of a Man Posing as a St. Charles East Student,” was to be issued Thursday afternoon, summarizing the arrest and allegations against Eric Hakala, 37, of Naperville.

The email also recommends parents take measures to ensure their children are safe, including getting the user names and passwords for their children’s social media accounts, and periodically checking their activity on those accounts.
“Because of this incident, the Naperville Police Department recommends that parents of high school students in St. Charles, Batavia and Oswego review their children’s Facebook friends to see if they have been in contact with a person going by the name of ‘Mike Evans,’” the email states.

“Parents who discover their children were in contact with ‘Mike Evans’ through Facebook or through a cellphone application called KIK are asked to preserve all conversations and photos their children may have exchanged with him,” the email from the school district continue.
“Police are asking parents to not report the activity to Facebook and instead call the Naperville Police Department High Technology Crimes Unit at (630) 305-5384 or the Batavia Police Department Investigations Unit at (630) 454-2500,” the email states.
The email adds that St. Charles School District 303 has no record of Hakala ever having attended a local school, nor is there any student named Mike Evans attending either of the district’s high schools.
“We also would like to take this opportunity to remind all parents that knowing the log ins and passwords for your child’s social media accounts and periodically monitoring the postings on those accounts are highly recommended,” the email concludes.
