Police reported they were responding to a driving complaint involving a red sport utility vehicle on North 2nd Street (Route 31) when they caught up with Rangel, who had turned from onto westbound West Main Street. Police said Rangel’s vehicle had extensive rear-end damage.

Police initiated a traffic stop and Rangel pulled over in the center median. Through a translator, Rangel told police the vehicle had been damaged in an accident a day earlier, although officers noted fresh mud and fresh clumps of grass on the vehicle.

Officers later located a damaged utility pole on North 2nd Street just north of Red Gate Road. Police said there were yaw marks on the ground indicated the vehicle had spun around and that the vehicle’s rear end had struck the pole.

At the police station, Rangel’s blood-alcohol concentration registered .227, a report on the incident states.

Rangel posted $300 cash bond and was ordered to appear in court Nov. 27, 2013. He posted $500 cash bond and a $75 failure to appear in court fee on the Kane County warrant, with a notice to appear in court Nov. 19, 2013.
