VIDEO: Easter Sunday Fire Erupts in St. Charles Home on State Avenue

FINAL UPDATE: An Easter Sunday fire caused an estimated $250,000 damage to a home on St. Charles' East Side. Here's what happened ...

A house fire at 608 State Ave. in St. Charles about 12:29 p.m. shook up the Easter Sunday for residents and neighbors on the East Side and caused an estimated $250,000 in damage. No one was injured.

The St Charles Fire Department arrived at the blaze by 12:32 p.m. and found heavy smoke showing from all floors of the three-story home, according to a release from the department.

“Upon entry, fire was found on all three floors,” the release states.

“Due to the size of the fire, the alarm was upgraded to a first level MABAS box alarm, bringing additional assistance to the scene,” the release states. MABAS is an acronym for Mutual Aid Box Alarm System.

According to the release, the fire was extinguished in about 2½ hours. But firefighters stayed longer than that, completing salvage operations, checking for fire extension and conducting the fire investigation as of the writing of the release, which was forwarded to media shortly after 4 p.m.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, the release states, although it does not appear to be suspciious. No one was home at the time of the blaze, which a passer-by noticed and called 911.

No firefighters were injured during the response.

The fire department estimated damage to the home at $200,000 and $50,000 to the contents.

The fire rendered the home uninhabitable, the department said.

According to the release, firefighters and aparatus from Geneva, Batavia, South Elgin, Elburn, West Chicago and Carol Stream assisted the St. Charles Fire Department on the scene. There were 12 fire trucks, plus two ambulances, a number of command vehicles as well as St. Charles police squad cars at the scene.

In addition, the Fermilab, Bartlett and Wheaton fire departments provided coverage while St. Charles units were committed to the fire, the release states.
