Elgin Woman Charged After Shoving St. Charles Cop

Police had been called to remove the woman from a local hotel when the incident occurred, and she was charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer.

Police called to remove a belligerent woman from a St. Charles hotel ended up arrested her when she shoved one of the officers with both hands as an ambulance was preparing to take her to an area hospital.


Linda Jean Harriston, 62, of the 400 block of Washington Avenue, Elgin, was arrested at 11:34 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at Best Western, 1635 E. Main St., on a charge of aggravated battery to a peace officer. She was held in the Kane County Jail.


According to the report, the officers arrived at the hotel where they met Harriston in a stairwell, who began cursing and threatening “to kill” and “to cap” the officers. The officers persuaded Harriston to go to the hospital for an evaluation, the report states, and an ambulance was called.

Harriston continued to curse at the officers even as she got into the ambulance, where a medic requested she be handcuffed to the cot for her own safety, as well as that of the ambulance crew, the report states.


An officer stepped into the ambulance and asked her to sit on the cot twice, and after the second time, the report states, she shoved the officer with both hands. The officer reached out and shoved her to the floor where she was arrested and handcuffed. She later was transported to the Kane County Jail.
