Ethnic Slurs Used in Harassment of St. Charles Couple

Man berated couple with their children present after they parked on the street to unload their groceries, then damaged their vehicle.

A Hispanic couple who had parked their car on the street to unload groceries at their Covington Court apartment became the target of an attack by a man who berated them with ethnic slurs, shoved one of them, and put a dent in their car door.

The incident occurred Sunday evening, June 9, 2013, as the couple, a 29-year-old man, his 24-year-old girlfriend and their three children were unloading groceries along the 1600 block of Covington Court.

The couple called police about 6:53 p.m. to report the incident.

The couple told police that as they were unloading their groceries, a white male in a blue Ford pickup pulled up alongside their vehicle and began yelling at them, using a derogatory ethnic slur, about parking on the street. During the course of the incident, the white man also told them to go back to Mexico.

When the male victim told him to shut up, the man pulled his truck up and parked in front of them, continued calling them names. He also kicked their car door shut and then pushed the male victim. The aggressor left when the woman called police.
