Family Feud? St. Charles Man Cited After Minor Gets Booze

Man was reported to police by a family member whose son had been supplied with an alcoholic beverage.

A St. Charles man found himself in hot water at home and with police last week after he supplied alcohol to an underage family member, whose parent then reported the man to police.

Nicholas J. Juliano, 45, of the 200 block of Grand Ridge Road, was cited at 8:15 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013, at the , with social hosting/providing alcohol to a minor. He was issued a notice to appear in court.

According to police, Juliano was approached by an underage family member who wanted alcohol to take to a party in DeKalb County. Police said he obliged.

But the youth’s parent found out and, upset, reported Juliano to St. Charles police.

The city’s social hosting ordinance holds adults responsible when underage individuals or juveniles consume alcohol or illegal drugs at a gathering, such as a party, even if the adult is not in attendance, when the adult either provides the alcohol or illegal substances, or fails to prevent the gathering when he/she knows the illegal activity is likely.

First-time offenders face a find of $250 to $500. The penalty increases to a $500 to $750 for a second violation; a third offense mandates a $750 fine.
