Gas Leak Blaze Burns Salerno's Restaurant in St. Charles

Fourteen fire departments arrive on the scene of the two-alarm fire.

Firefighters battled a two-alarm fire at Salerno’s on the Fox in St. Charles Wednesday afternoon.

An official told St. Charles Patch a gas main that feeds into the kitchen of the restaurant is still on fire. The cause of blaze is not yet known.

No one has been reported injured.

"Most of the damage is contained to the (one part) of the building," said St. Charles Fire Chief Patrick Mullen.

He said the the fire is contained to the area around the leak and that NICOR representatives had arrived to shut off the gas main line.

Fourteen fire companies and more than 40 rescue personnel are at the North Second Street location. The road reportedly was closed to through traffic from Route 64 to the south to Crane Road in the north. Units from Geneva and Batavia are on the scene.
