Man Arrested for DUI after Hitting Block Wall

Here's an item from the St. Charles police blotter.

A Geneva man was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol on Friday after police discovered he had crashed his car into a cinder block wall.

Ioannis G. Kokkinos, 26, of Geneva was arrested Aug. 27 for DUI and was cited for improper lane use.

Police responded to a crash at Sammy's Bikes, 602 S. 1st St, that night where a car reportedly had stuck the building. Upon arrival, police discovered that a red Mazda had left Prairie Street and struck the north side of the building, according to reports. Police later determined that Kokkinos was the driver of the car.

Kokkinos was injured in the crash and had been transported to Delnor-Community Hospital for treatment. He refused a chemical test for blood-alcohol content but had admitted to police he had been drinking earlier in the night.
