OMG, BRB: St. Charles Police Spot Man Texting While Driving, Arrest Driver for Drug Possession

Here is an item from the city police blotter.

An officer who was on the lookout for people texting while driving stopped a Carpentersville man who allegedly admitted to possessing marijuana.

Manuel Adalberto Zavala, 20, of 7 Walnut Dr., was arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and also was cited for texting on a phone while driving on March 31.

According to the police report, a police officer spotted Zavala using an electronic device while driving on Kirk Road. After the car, driving by Zavala, was stopped, the officer could smell “weed” coming from the vehicle. When an officer asked if Zavala would consent to a search of his car, he offered up a device used for smoking marijuana and a bag of containing 1.7 grams of the drug.
