One Dies in Route 59 Crash into Ravine in West Chicago

Wreck was reported to police late Thursday afternoon, but timing of crash is uncertain.

A car plunged 50 feet off a roadway into a ravine near Route 59 and Hawthorne Lane, killing the driver.


A release from West Chicago police said the crash was reported about 4:49 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, but authorities are not certain precisely when the wreck occurred. West Chicago police are being assisted by the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office and the Coroner’s Office in the death investigation.


“At this time, we are unsure of the exact time of the accident,” the release states. “We are withholding any victim identifiers pending official identification and notification of next of kin.”

Police closed northbound lanes of Route 59 for about 90 minutes at the start of the investigation.
