Police Blotter: Driver Blames Hand Signals for Erratic Driving

St. Charles police reports, June 14

THURSDAY, JUNE 14

DUI Citation

St. Charles police arrested Deborah J. Cox, 405 S. 19th St., after officers said they observed her driving erratically. According to police reports, Cox’s car crossed both the center line and drove over a curb side and straight through a turn-only lane.

Police said the driver told them she preferred to call her husband to pick her up rather than be arrested for a DUI. However, officers denied that request and proceeded to submit Cox to field sobriety tests. Cox refused to perform the tests, and she was taken into custody.

During questioning Cox told officers the erratic driving was the result of having to use hand signals because the electronic turn signals in her car were malfunctioning.

Cox was cited with a DUI.
