Police Blotter: Geneva Man Charged with Sneaking Goods Passed Self Checkout

St. Charles police report two cases of retail theft.

THURSDAY, JUNE 21

Retail Theft

St. Charles police charged Alicia Calderon Ramos, 1224 N. Kings Cross, Apt. 206, with retail theft in connection with an incident at a St. Charles department store.

Loss prevention officers from Kohl’s observed a woman remove various items from store racks, including men’s shirts and ladies sandals with a total value of $111, and leave the store with them hidden on her person, according to a police report. Ramos was stopped by security once she left the store and entered Charlestowne Mall. She was detained until police arrived. She has a court date of July 12.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 13

Retail Theft

A Geneva man was charged with theft by St. Charles police after grocery store security cameras recorded a man bagging more items than he rang up, according to police reports.

Security personnel at Meijer on Randall Road reported Leonard Z. Ball, 849 Howell Drive, Geneva, wheeled a cart of goods valued at $124 to the self checkout and proceeded to complete his transaction. However, according to the police report, security said Ball did not scan all the items from his cart.

Store security held Ball until police arrived. When officers arrived, they said that Ball attempted to leave the store but they took him into custody.

Ball, 36, was charged with theft and transferred to Kane County Jail to await a bond hearing.
