Police Blotter: Two Charged with DUIs in St. Charles

St. Charles police reports, July 11-12.

Two drivers were charged with DUI July 9.

Kerri L Kolaciniski, 7N070 Gary Court, was cited with a DUI after St. Charles Police officers observed her driving a vehicle at a rate of speed higher than the posted limit. When officers approached the vehicle they noted a “strong odor of alcohol” coming from the vehicle, according to the report. Officers also said that the driver's speech was slurred.

Kolaciniski, 29, was subjected to field sobriety tests and failed. She was placed under arrest for DUI.

While on routine patrol of downtown St. Charles, officers observed a man stumbling along the road and entering a parking lot. Officers later were unable to locate an individual on foot, but saw a small black car drive out of the lot. The police followed the vehicle and saw the driver exhibit erratic behavior, including stopping at an intersection that had no stop sign and driving at high rates of speed. They stopped the vehicle and, according to the report, noted the odor of alcohol from the driver, identified as Kyle R. Holley, 4N696 Blue Lake Circle E.

When questioned Holley, 21, told officers he had been drinking, but he refused to take a field sobriety test. He told officers he wanted to call his attorney. The officer allowed him to make a call from his cell phone, and the man left a message.

He again refused to be tested, saying he would wait for his attorney's call. According to the report, the officer informed Holley it was unlikely he would get a return call because it was 2 a.m. Holley was taken to the police station, and continued to refuse tests and kept telling officers he could not be arrested because he had not been read rights or been given a breath test. He was issued citations for DUI and lack of insurance. He paid his bond and kept telling cops he was beating the charges, according to the report.

At one point in the holding area Holley was overheard saying “.08, I’m over that,” according to the report.
