Police Slate Safety Check Friday in St. Charles

State troopers and St. Charles police will conduct the joint enforcement effort.

Illinois State Police and the St. Charles Police Department are planning joint roadside safety check in St. Charles on Friday evening, April 26, 2013.

According to police, troopers and officers working the detail will be watchful for drivers who are driving under the influence, transporting open alcoholic beverages, operating unsafe vehicles and driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license.

Alcohol and drug impairment remain a significant factor in more than 40 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois, according to a release from the St. Charles Police Department. Safety checks aim to keep roads safer by taking dangerous DUI offenders off the streets.

Roadside safety checks are part of the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign and is funded through a U.S. Department of Transportation National Highway Traffic Safety Administration grant. The grant is administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety.
