See New Firefighter, Assistant Chief Sworn in

The St. Charles City Council on Monday night, Dec. 2, 2013, witnessed the swearing in of a returning firefighter and a new assistant fire chief.

Fire Chief Joe Schelstreet said Chad Tinsley served the early part of his career with the St. Charles Fire Department before taking a position for a time with the department in Barrington. Tinsley returned to St. Charles recently when an opening occurred.

Tinsley was sworn in by Don Haines, president of the St. Charles Board of Police and Fire Commissioners.

Schelstreet also introduced the City Council to Scott Swanson, who was sworn in as assistant fire chief by Mayor Raymond Rogina.

According to Schelstreet, the Fire Department received permission earlier this year to fill the position of assistant chief of operations. Schelstreet said Swanson faced stiff competition — the department considered 30 candidates. Swanson, however, “clearly stood out.” Schelstreet said.

Swanson has been serving the St. Charles Fire Department for more than 25 years.
