Snow’s on the Way to the Tri-Cities

Not to fear — the National Weather Service is predicting 1 to 3 inches. But it's likely to be falling for the morning commute.

It’s not supposed to be a whopper — no “snowpocalypse” this — but between the time the snow starts late Thursday to the time it ends Friday morning, it could pose a challenge to drivers.

The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement Thursday evening advising of the approaching snow, which was expected to begin dropping snow after midnight Thursday, leaving 1 to 3 inches in its wake by the time the rapidly moving system moves past the area early Friday.

“There could be a three hour or so period where the fluffy snow comes down at a moderate clip,” the National Weather Service statement states. The snowfall is expected to taper off by early to midmorning.

“This is especially the case in the Chicago metro area ...where snow is expected to be ongoing during the commute, the National Weather Service predicts.

The agency predicts about 1 inch of snow to the west and southwest of the Tri-Cities along a line between Paxton and Dixon. The further north the system move, the more snow — the weather service predicts up to 3 inches in northeast Illinois and extreme northwest Indiana.
