St. Charles Man Charged After Woman Knocked to Ground at Pool

Woman had asked the man to stop using foul language and behaving badly in front of the young children at the pool.

A man who was asked to leave the pool at the St. Charles Place Apartments on the 150 block of North 15th Street was arrested by police last week after he returned and twice knocked down a woman who asked him to stop using foul language in front of her children.

David John Teafoe, 20, of the 100 block of North 15th Street, was charged at 6:16 p.m. Thursday, June 27, 2013, with simple battery. According to the report, Teafoe became belligerent with the pool attendant while small children were present at the pool, and he was asked to leave. Initially, he did, only to return an hour later. The report states he began yelling and using foul language again, directed at both the attendant and at bystanders. The 37-year-old victim, the report states, asked Teafoe to stop using that language and behavior in front of the children.

The argument between the two then moved into the parking lot, where Teafoe reportedly pushed the woman with both hands on her shoulders with enough force to knock her to the ground, and knocked her to the ground a second time when she got up. At that pointed, the report states, Teafoe’s girlfriend intervened and they left for his apartment. But the victim said that later, when she went to the apartment building, Teafoe emerged with a large, shiny knife. She told police, however, that she did not feel threatened.

Police said two independent witnesses confirmed the account of the victim, who was covered with dirt on her back and legs and suffered scrapes to her left elbow and ankle.

Teafoe posted $150 cash bond and a $50 booking fee and was released pending a July 25, 2013 court appearance.
