St. Charles Man Charged With Slashing Neighbor

The victim was treated by paramedics after the June 8 fight but declined to go to the hospital.

A 51-year-old St. Charles man has been charged with aggravated battery after a June 8 fight in which his neighbor was slashed twice with a kitchen knife.


Edward Brubaker, of the 100 block of North 15th Street, was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after the fight.

According to St. Charles police, officers were dispatched at 5:36 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2013, to a fight in progress on the 100 block of North 15th Street. As officers headed to the home, TriCom Dispatch told officers someone had been stabbed.

Arriving officers were met by a witness who told them the fight involved Brubaker and a 23-year-old man who lived in the same building. According to police, after the altercation, Brubaker went into his apartment and came back out with a kitchen knife. Police found Brubaker and took him  into custody.

Police said the they found the victim in the apartment building suffering from two long slash marks on his right side underneath his arm, and a cut on top of his head. Paramedics treated the victim, but he refused to be taken to the hospital for additional treatment.


According to police, officers took statements “from numerous witnesses.” They also found a Faberware-brand kitchen knife used in the incident and seized as evidence.


A release from the department stated that Brubaker was transported to the St. Charles Police Department, 211 N. Riverside Drive, where officers contacted the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, which authorized one felony count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.


Brubaker was transported to the Kane County Jail, where he was held pending a court appearance.
