St. Charles Man Draws Probation for June 2013 Slashing

Edward E. Brubaker, the 52-year-old St. Charles man who slashed his neighbor with a kitchen knife during a dispute last summer has been sentenced to two years probation and has been fined $1,400, the Daily Herald reports.

Convicted of felony aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, Brubaker could face as much as five years in prison if he violates probation, according to the Daily Herald.

Brubaker’s sentence is per a plea agreement with prosecutors, who in exchange for a guilty plea to the felony count, agreed to drop other less serious charges against him, the Daily Herald reports.

The newspaper said Kane County Judge Karen Simpson accepted the agreement.

St. Charles Patch covered the slashing, which occurred June 8, 2013 as police were investigating an earlier disturbance in the apartment complex where Brubaker lives on the 100 block of North 15th Street. The initial disturbance involved the 23-year-old victim and another man, both of whom reports said were highly intoxicated.

A woman told police two men were banging on a door in the apartment complex with enough force to cause things to fall over in her own apartment.

Police apprehended one man and were taking him into custody when the victim and Brubaker clashed. The victim suffered two long slash marks to his right side and a cut to his head, police said after the incident.
