A store employee reportedly told police that Rodriguez had entered a dressing room with a shirt and the gloves but allegedly was seen exiting only with the shirt. The Elgin man then paid for a book he had picked out.

When questioned by police, Rodriguez told them that he had removed the tag off the gloves and concealed them in his sweatshirt, according to the report. He also said that he forgot the gloves were in his sweatshirt.
