St. Charles Police Arrest Geneva Man After Knife Threat

St. Charles police arrested a Geneva man with a knife early Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013 after he threatened a local bar manager on the street near the establishment.

Ryan Thomas Fitzsimmons, of the 2700 block of Peterson Court, Geneva, was charged at 3:36 a.m. on the 200 block of Cedar Street with aggravated assault. He also was arrested on two Aurora warrants for failure to appear in court on charges of obtaining a substance by fraud, and driving with a suspended license; and three Kane County warrants for failure to appear in court on three counts of obtaining a substance by fraud.

According to police, an officer saw Fitzsimmons walking on 3rd Street from West Main Street and drove around the block, believing there were warrants for his arrest. When the officer returned, he saw Fitzsimmons approaching a manager of Alley 64, 212 W. Main St., in the middle of the 200 block of Cedar Street. The manager appeared to be backing away, police said. The officer pulled his squad car between the two men.

The manager told the office Fitzsimmons had pulled a knife on him, which Fitzsimmons initially denied until the officer searched him.

The bar manager told police he had an altercation with Fitzsimmons a few months ago when he kicked the man out of the bar a few months ago. Police said Fitzsimmons has been banned from all downtown St. Charles bars except The Alibi Bar & Grill, 12 N. 3rd St.

Another Alley 64 employee confirmed the bar manager’s account of the incident to police. Another witness, who was with Fitzsimmons, also confirmed the account, although he told police he thought Fitzsimmons knew the bar manager and at first throught he was messing around.

Fitzsimmons was transported to the Kane County Jail, where he was unable to post bond on the warrants.
