St. Charles Police Blotter: Burglaries, Property Damage

St. Charles police reports from Monday, Aug. 12, 2013 through Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013.

Vehicle Burglary


An Elgin man lost $1,300 in car stereo equipment after someone broke into his vehicle while it was left parked at a local car dealership for the past month. The victim told police at 6:12 p.m. that he left his 2003 BMW at Al Piemonte Chrysler, 1611 E. Main St., on July 12, 2013 while he was in the process of buying a vehicle from them, and that when he returned on Tuesday, the stereo/CD unit, an amplifier and a sub-woofer were missing. In addition to the $1,300 in missing stereo equipment, there was about $300 damage to the vehicle’s wiring.


Criminal Property Damage


A resident of the 4100 block of River Ridge Road reported at 12:37 p.m. that someone had caused a small hole in a double-pane window of her home. Police said the damage was a consistent with a BB or similar projectile. Damage was estimated at $200.

Burglary, Criminal Property Damage


Someone stole 120 feet of copper pipe plus fittings and a pump, from a building at 2701 W. Main St., according to a report. The incident was reported at 5:58 p.m. by two men who told officers they were in the process of buying the building, and had discovered the damage inside after finding a broken window. The stolen copper pipe and fittings were valued at $500, the pump was valued at $800, and damage to the window and broken lights inside the building was estimated at $180.

Hit-and-Run Accident


Richard C. Steel, 71, of the 41W100 block of Dillon Field Drive, Elburn, was charged at 1-:14 a.m. at his home on charges of failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, failure to give information after an accident, and leaving the scene of a vehicle damage accident. Further details were not immediately available.
