Possession of a Stolen Vehicle

Daniel J. Duggin, 35, of the 7800 block of West 157th Street, Orland Park, was charged on the 2700 block of South California, Chicago, with unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle. Further details were not available. Police said the arrested stems from a September 2012 incident at a local car dealership in which the victim purchased a vehicle and left his 1996 Chevrolet Tracker the parking lot with the understanding he would return to pick it up. Duggan, identified as the salesman in the transaction, indicated it would not be a problem, and the Tracker’s owner left the keys with the vehicle in case it needed to be moved.

But that evening, police said Duggan apparently was arrested by Chicago police while driving the Tracker. Duggan was charged with driving while license suspended, and possession of a controlled substance, and the vehicle was impounded.

On Nov. 4, the victim made out a police report with the St. Charles Police Department because he wasn't able to get his car returned to him without paying the impound fee. St. Charles police investigated and on Nov. 8, the Kane County State’s Attorney's Office authorized two counts of possession of a stolen vehicle. Arrest warrants were issued on Nov. 9.

After his arrest in Chicago on the outstanding warrants, Duggan posted bond and was released.
