St. Charles police and the Kane County Coroner’s Office await toxicology test results as they investigate the death of a circus worker early Saturday, Aug. 18, at the , 525 S. Randall Road, St. Charles.
Authorities said St. Charles police and fire personnel were called to the fairgrounds at 3:50 a.m. After the man’s roommates found him slumped over the dresser in the bedroom of his trailer. The first officer arrived after his roommates had carried him outside and began CPR.
Police identified the dead man as Casey Dale Walker, of the 400 block of Masterview Drive, Etowah, N.C.
The police officer also began performing CPR, and St. Charles paramedics, who arrived a short time later, continued giving CPR while transporting Walker to Delnor Hospital for further treatment.
Witnesses told police that they had noticed a bump on Walker’s forehead earlier in the night, and a witness also told officers that she saw a metal pipe accidentally fall on Walker’s forehead several hours before he was found in his trailer. Investigators also learned that Walker drank several alcoholic beverages with his fellow workers earlier that night. There were no signs of a struggle in, or around the trailer, police said.
Physicians at pronounced Walker dead at 5 a.m., and his family was notified. An autopsy was scheduled by the Kane County Coroner’s Office at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, to determine the cause of death. But authorities said there was no apparent cause of death at the conclusion of the autopsy. The death investigation is now pending until toxicology reports are received by the Kane County Coroner’s Office, authorities said.
