Police took 11 reports of vehicle break-ins on both sides of St. Charles on Thursday morning.

St. Charles police are reminding residents to lock their vehicles when they’re unattended after officers were swamped Thursday morning with 11 reports of vehicle burglaries overnight on both side of the city.

According to a release, all of the break-ins occurred on the Northeast Side — on Lewis Court, Stonehedge Road, and Dunham Place — and on the Near West Side on Timbers Trail, Timbers Court, Timbers Circle, and Carrol Road.

Police said all of the burglaries occurred between midnight and 3 a.m. Thursday, June 13, 2013, and involved vehicles whose owners left them unsecured. A GPS unit was taken from one of the vehicles. The other 10 break-ins, the release states, involved the theft of small sums of currency and coins that had been left inside the vehicle.
