St. Charles Police Slate First Youth Police Academy

The deadline for registering is May 28, and classes run June 10-14.

The St. Charles Police Department will host its first Youth Police Academy this summer.

The class will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 10-14, and is open to kids ages 13 through 16. The academy is intended to showcase careers in police and fire work, encourage teamwork, and grow self-esteem.

According to the police department, class offerings include:

  • The steps to become a police officer and firefighter.
  • Personal safety/self-defense.
  • Internet safety.
  • Bullying.
  • Crime scene evidence collection, and more.

The St. Charles Youth Commission has provided funding to ensure participants will be certified, at no cost, in CPR and first aid by the St. Charles Fire Department.

Participants also will spend a day at the Kane County Judicial Center for classes led by state’s attorneys.

The class is limited to the first 25 registrants, who must be St. Charles residents, and/or attend a St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 school. Preference will be given to residents within the city limits first.

Registration packets can be picked up at the St. Charles Police Department or at either high school’s main office. The deadline for registration is Tuesday, May 28.
