Nicor officials were still at the scene to shut off the gas and the road was still closed between Peck and Lea as of 4 p.m. Wednesday.
At 1:37 p.m., an officer said the road likely would be closed for "a couple more hours."
Geneva School District 304 was notified regarding bus transportation. School buses were moving throughout town but some likely would be a few minutes late.
School District 304 posted this message on its website:
"Geneva School District buses may be delayed by up to 10 minutes this afternoon due the closing of Keslinger Road near the District’s transportation facility.
"Early reports indicate there is a leak in a natural gas line along Keslinger Road, and crews are currently attempting to remedy the situation. The closing of Keslinger Road is expected to last at least 2 hours.
"Students and staff are safe, but the closing of Keslinger Road between Peck Road and our transportation facility will force the rerouting of many buses via Fabyan Parkway, which could delay them by approximately 10 minutes. Drivers are being called in early to help mitigate the delays."
