5 Things: Don't Forget to Order Your Parkway Tree

Here are four things going on in St. Charles, or the surrounding area, for Sept. 30, and one thing going on Oct. 1.

1.  residents can order trees for their parkways through the city's 50/50 Parkway Tree Program. Once your tree has been purchased, the city's tree consultant will come and plant the tree, place mulch and provide a "gator bag" for watering.

Orders will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 30. For more information, call Ben Deutsch of the Public Works Department at 630-377-4405.  

2. Banned Books Week at the St. Charles Public Library runs though tomorrow. This week-long event is sponsored by the American Library Association's Office for Intellectual Freedom. 

Every year the ALA gets a list of formal, written complaints, filed with a library or school, requesting that materials be removed or restricted because of content or appropriateness. Libraries are asked to feature these selections during Banned Books Week to celebrate tolerance and diversity in literacy. 

3. Ladies can go out tonight and enjoy a night of shopping from 6 to 9 p.m. at in Batavia. Vendors will include Longaberger, Mary Kay, Lia Sophia, Gigi Hil, Gold Canyon Candles, Tastefully Simple, Pampered Chef, Covered in Chocolate, Thirty-One and Tupperware. This is a great way to .

4. A  starts tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the  during Black Hat Day in Geneva. If you don't find a costume and yours has been swapped out, the store will offer a coupon for a purchase at Peaceful Parlour. Costume donations are greatly appreciated and all remaining costumes after the sale will be donated to Mutual Ground, a Domestic Violence Shelter in Aurora.

5. Fun Fact: National Mulled Cider Day is a great way to toast the Autumn season. This food holiday takes place every Sept. 30, just in time to enjoy the spicy brisk feeling of the fall air.
