Another Alderman Will Not Run for St. Charles Mayor

Jon Monken says he's already busy enough to consider mayoral bid. Bessner and Rogina say it's still too early for them to decide.

The list of aldermen who might consider a run for St. Charles mayor is dwindling.

Earlier this week, 1st Ward Alderman Jon Monken said he already is busy enough with city, professional and family obligations to consider running for mayor in the spring.

That leaves just 3rd Ward Alderman Raymond Rogina and 5th Ward Alderman Ed Bessner as possible City Council contenders for the post, for which Mayor Donald DeWitte announced Aug. 31 that he will not seek a third term.

So far, the only commitments for municipal campaigning in the spring have come from 2nd Ward Alderman Cliff Carrignan, 3rd Ward Alderman William Turner, 5th Ward Alderwoman Maureen Lewis. All three have indicated they will seek re-election to their respective ward seats.
