Bessner Declines St. Charles Mayoral Bid

Alderman Ed Bessner says he will continue to work for 5th Ward residents.

Ed Bessner on Saturday signaled he will not pursue a bid for mayor during the spring 2013 election, leaving Raymond P. Rogina the only seated alderman to seek the city’s highest elected post.

“I will not be running for mayor,” Bessner wrote in an email on Saturday. “I  will continue to work hard to represent what is good for the residents of the 5th Ward and the city of St Charles.

Bessner becomes the ninth alderman to decline a mayoral bid, which could give Rogina, 3rd Ward, an edge against a challenger in the mayoral race. Rogina on Friday became the first person to publicly declare his candidacy for mayor in 2013, just two weeks after Donald DeWitte announced he would not seek a third term.
