Charter One Avenue in St. Charles Faces Name Change

St. Charles aldermen direct staff to prepare for the street's name change.

The St. Charles City Council Government Services Committee on Monday directed the city staff to draw up an ordinance to change the name of Charter One Avenue, which is northeast of Charlestowne Mall.

The section of street in question heads northwest off Smith Road at US Bank’s property at 135 Smith Road. The name Charter One Avenue was selected when the subdivision was originally processed and Charter One Bank was located at 135 Smith Road. US Bank requested the street be renamed.

Charter One Avenue is a dead-end street, with long-term plans to connect the roadway with King Edward Avenue at Foxfield Drive. There are no improved lots along Charter One Avenue.

The memo states that King Edward Avenue would be a logical choice for a new name, considering the planned long-term extension connecting the two.
