Comprehensive Plan Task Force to Meet May 24

Meeting will focus on Randall Road corridor anddDowntown St. Charles.

The next Comprehensive Plan Task Force meeting will review Key Focus Area Plans for the West Gateway, which includes the Randall Road corridor, former St. Charles Mall site and the Downtown area. The meeting will be held Thurs., May 24 at 7:00 p.m. in City Council Chambers, 2 E. Main Street, St. Charles.

“Key Focus Area Plans are components of the Comprehensive Plan that identify visions and goals of a particular area,” said Russell Colby, Planning Division Manager in the Community Development department. “They focus on specific improvement objectives, development opportunities, and building and site design guidelines. These plans build on community input from the outreach and workshops the City conducted last fall.”

The Comprehensive Plan serves as the City’s official guide for land use, physical improvement and development. Work on the plan began last summer. A final draft of the plan is anticipated by fall 2012 for review by the Plan Commission and Planning and Development Committee.

Later this summer, a Key Focus Area Plan also will be developed for the East Gateway, which includes East Main Street and the Charlestowne Mall area. A visioning workshop will be held specifically for the mall property and a real estate marketing study will be conducted to identify potential alternatives for future use of the site.
