Dry Conditions Put Fireworks Display in Jeopardy

Park District will make announcement Monday.

Excessively dry conditions across St. Charles and the region may force the St. Charles Parks District to cancel the annual Independence Day fireworks display.

The park district, working with the St. Charles Fire Department, will make a decision Monday regarding the display, according to a park district press release. Although the fireworks display is shot off over the Fox River from Boy Scout Island, the entire area is surrounded by trees and homes. Sparks from the pyrotechnics could ignite a fire in the dry brush.

According to the Natonal Weather Service there has been approximately one inch of rainfall in the St. Charles area over the past 30 days. Forecast information indicates a 30 percent chance of rain each day for the next week.
